Asylum

Asylum is a form of protection for individuals who fear returning to their home country due to persecution or a well-founded fear of future persecution. This persecution must be based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.

If granted asylum, you may be allowed to remain in the United States, apply for work authorization, and eventually seek permanent residence.

Who May Qualify for Asylum

You may be eligible for asylum if:

  • You have suffered past persecution or fear future persecution in your home country

  • The harm is connected to one of the protected grounds under U.S. law

  • Your application is filed within one year of your last entry into the United States (with limited exceptions)

Types of Asylum Cases We Handle

  • Affirmative asylum applications with USCIS

  • Defensive asylum cases in immigration court

  • Asylum for individuals in removal proceedings

  • Assistance with one-year filing deadline exceptions

  • Asylum interviews and immigration court hearings
